Drying Cacao in Ghana
Most of Ghana’s export earnings are from cacao, used in making chocolate and cocoa. The first cacao beans were brought to the West African nation in 1878; by the 1960s the country had become the world’s largest producer of cacao. Subsequently cacao prices crashed, and Ghana’s economy declined during the 1970s and early 1980s. Since 1984 the country has experienced a modest recovery.
